Responsibilities
Our client is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join their team!
As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will play a pivotal role in supporting mission-critical applications and services for a major Directorate. You will be responsible for the orchestration, sustainment, and evolution of complex systems essential to national security operations. In this position, you will work closely with network engineers to optimize multi-user computer systems, ensuring efficient operations, managing performance, and maintaining system security.
- Ensure the seamless operation of multi-user computer systems, collaborating with network engineers to optimize system performance and reliability
- Manage Linux distributions (CentOS, RHEL, Oracle), including installations, configurations, upgrades, and troubleshooting
- Handle cloud environment management using AWS services (EC2, S3, Elasticache) for provisioning, maintaining, and monitoring servers
- Perform system security tasks, including STIG hardening, patch management, and applying security updates
- Conduct disaster recovery procedures, perform snapshots, and manage backup solutions to maintain system resilience
- Optimize system performance by monitoring and tuning CPU usage, disk I/O, and response times
- Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 1 issues, providing effective communication to users and stakeholders
- Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automating administrative tasks and managing system operations
- Use configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) to maintain consistent system configurations
- Develop and maintain critical documentation, including System Installation Plans (SIPs), System Architecture Guides (SAGs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and user guides
- Evaluate and recommend hardware and software products based on system needs and make informed purchase decisions
- Manage and deploy applications using tools such as ElasticSearch, Kafka, Docker, Openshift, Keycloak, and Wildfly
- Administer PKI certificates and manage SSL/TLS for securing communications and services
- Support and maintain various environment types, including physical, virtual, and cloud environments
- Participate in Agile or Scrum methodologies within development and operations teams
- Support security audits and testing events to ensure compliance with security standards and regulations
- Continuously monitor system resources, including CPU and disk usage, to maintain optimal system performance
- Provision, configure, and maintain critical services and applications to ensure availability and performance
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
- Expertise in Linux System Administration, including CentOS, RHEL, and Oracle
- Hands-on experience with AWS services for managing cloud environments
- Proficiency in system security administration, including STIG hardening and patch management
- Knowledge of disaster recovery procedures and backup solutions
- Skills in system performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation
- Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Ability to develop and maintain critical technical documentation
- Skills in evaluating hardware and software products and making informed decisions
- Experience with ElasticSearch, Kafka, Docker, Openshift, Keycloak, and Wildfly
- Understanding of PKI and SSL/TLS management
- Experience managing multiple environment types (physical, virtual, and cloud)
- Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies
- Experience supporting security audits and compliance testing
- Skills in performance monitoring and management for system efficiency
- Ability to provision, configure, and maintain critical services and applications
Education/Certification Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position
- A Security+ OR other active IAT II/III certification is required
Clearance Requirements
- Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; an active TS/SCI clearance with a CI poly that has been obtained in the past six years is required. Please note that our client will consider candidates with a poly that is older than six years but must be willing to retake and pass the polygraph test prior to starting this position.
