Responsibilities

Our client is seeking a Software Virtualization Engineer (VDI) to join their team! This role will support the virtualization of mission-critical applications in both VDI and thick client environments. The ideal candidate will work across engineering, testing, and infrastructure teams to develop virtualized application packages, support delivery systems, and improve resiliency through disaster recovery planning. This position plays a key role in maintaining operational excellence and technical documentation in a mission-focused setting.

  • Develop virtualized packages for mission applications used in VDI and thick client environments

  • Collaborate with application testers and mission SMEs to validate application behavior

  • Incorporate feedback and sequencing changes into application virtualization processes

  • Identify and configure user settings persistence across non-persistent VDI sessions

  • Identify and implement automation opportunities for app sequencing and deployment

  • Assist with VDI infrastructure configuration to optimize application delivery

  • Contribute to disaster recovery and continuity of operations improvements

  • Write technical documentation including designs, test cases, implementation, and training guides

  • Troubleshoot and tune virtualization tools using VMware SDDC products

  • Test and apply security patches and software updates as required

  • Fulfill incident resolution and software request tickets

  • Provide training and knowledge sharing with team members

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in systems administration or virtualization (additional experience or certifications may substitute for a degree)

  • 8140.01M IAT Level II certification

  • At least 3 years of experience with VDI technologies such as VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or Microsoft RDS

  • 2+ years of experience with application virtualization technologies like Citrix XenApp, Microsoft App-V, FlexApp, or App Volumes

  • Strong documentation, time management, and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage technical objectives under tight deadlines

Education/Certification Requirements

  •  A CompTIA Security+ or similar for IAT Level II DoD 8570 certification is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Windows Desktop (10/11) and Server (2012+) OS

  • Scripting and automation experience with tools like PowerShell

  • Familiarity with non-persistent desktop environments

  • Experience with profile management tools such as VMware DEM or Profile-Unity

  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and load-balancing principles

  • Understanding of the ITIL framework and architectural standards like TOGAF

  • VMware Certified Associate – Data Center Virtualization (VCA-DCV) or similar

  • Experience with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Remedy, or Service+

Clearance Requirements

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; an active TS/SCI clearance is required.
